We drove through the town, which consists of a few blocks of tourist shops and cafes, and bypassed the beach to first do the Cooloola Great Walk which leads to Carlo Sand Blow. The Carlo Sandblow is located in Rainbow Beach, within the Cooloola Recreation Area in the Great Sandy National Park. After a visit here, it's worth spending time to check out the other attractions within the park. It's popular for excellent, scenic four-wheel driving where you can drive past coloured sands, massive sand cliffs, and the sea.

The QPWS Rainbow Beach Information Centre is on the right-hand side of Rainbow Beach Road as you enter Rainbow Beach township. The walk starts from the far corner of the car park. This one-way walk ends at the Carlo Sandblow car park at the top of Cooloola Drive in the Rainbow Beach township, alternatively you can retrace your steps.

Located in Rainbow Beach, the Carlo Sand Blow is a sand mass covering over 15 hectares and part of the Cooloola sand mass, one of the largest accumulations of wind-blown sand found along Queensland's coastline. Named by Captain Cook after one of his deck crew, Carlo, it offers exceptional views of the area that never ceases to take my breath away.

We set off just before sunset, and the 360 degree view of golden, sloping sand dunes is well worth the walk through the woodlands.
